Up until about 10 minutes ago I knew that Herpes Zoster was a popular topic in search, but I didn’t know exactly what is was. You probably know Herpes Zoster as shingles, and like Herpes it’s a viral disease. Herpes Zoster is caused by the same virus as chichenpox and will infect the user after they experience chickenpox (sometimes after many years).

Herpes Zoster can also be referred to as just “zoster”. Some estimate that 20 percent of chickenpox infections result in zoster, however most only suffer a one-time outbreak.

The disease is more common in people older than 50, and is theorized to activate when the body’s immune system is depleted (the virus lays dormant in nerve cells) or the body has been stressed in some way.

People who have suffered from various cancers (and been treated with chemotherapy or radiation) like lymphoma, leukemia and AIDS are susceptible to herpes zoster.

Many people are searching the web for herpes pictures, some are for doing so for informational purposes only, while others may be looking for a visual to compare to symptoms they might be experiencing. Herpes pictures are very graphic, and contain images of genital herpes as well as cold sores in various stages of outbreak.
